Dental Health Week 2022: Love Your Teeth | Kreativ Dental Albury
Kreativ Dental Albury has produced a quick list of strategies to maintain optimum oral health to commemorate Dental Health Week 2022 (1-7 August), with the theme ‘Love Your Teeth.’
The primary oral health key message of the Australian Dental Association (ADA) and the four essential concepts of the Dental Health Week 2022 campaign emphasise the importance of loving and keeping good oral health to retain your teeth for life:
#1. Use fluoride toothpaste to brush your teeth twice daily
While it is impossible to eradicate all decay-causing bacteria, they can be controlled. Regular maintenance is the first step in keeping your teeth clean and healthy.
Brushing 2x twice a day, as recommended, will assist in keeping plaque at bay. Brushing reduces the number of germs and plaque surrounding the teeth and gums, which helps prevent tooth decay and gum disease.
#2. Every day, use dental floss or interdental brushes to clean in between your teeth.
Flossing eliminates plaque and food particles from areas that a toothbrush cannot easily reach effectively. It would be best if you flossed (clean between your teeth) once daily.
Flossing can help minimise bacterial accumulation, leading to tooth decay and gum disease.
#3. Limit added sugar intake while maintaining a healthy, balanced diet.
Sugar can cause cavities. According to studies, sugar continues to influence poor dental health outcomes substantially. Candy and pastries are common culprits, but many processed foods include added sugar.
The WHO also recommends that adults keep their sugar intake to less than 10% daily calories to reduce the risk of cavities and other dental problems.
Instead of starchy foods, the ADA recommends consuming enough fibre-rich fruits and vegetables and dairy products with no added sugar.
Eating nutrient-rich foods helps to maintain healthy teeth and gums.
A well-balanced diet that includes fruits, vegetables, protein-rich meals, grains, and dairy delivers the necessary nutrients for good oral and overall health.
#4. Regularly visit your Albury dentist for check-ups and preventive care.
Regular dental exams preserve not only your oral health but also your general health.
For example, signs and symptoms of several systemic disorders may initially appear in the mouth.
The examination also allows your dentist to give you advice on how to care for your teeth and spot oral health problems early on – when they are most treatable.
Keeping Good Dental Health
Maintaining good oral hygiene is vital for oral health because it reduces your chances of gum disease and tooth decay.
Untreated gum disease and tooth decay can harm oral health. To begin with, they may create unpleasant or unattractive symptoms.
Furthermore, more severe cases may result in bone deterioration, tooth loss, and the spreading of infection to other mouth areas.
Excess microorganisms cause these oral health disorders on the tooth enamel or around the gums.
Dental hygiene reduces your chances of developing these issues by reducing the number of bacteria in your mouth.
Furthermore, if these issues emerge, they are easier to deal with. As a result, you should think about keeping up your oral hygiene.
Love Your Teeth!
Oral hygiene is a skill that will significantly improve your general oral health, even if you weren’t aware of its importance.
Your mouth will stay in excellent condition if you practise good oral hygiene, eat a gentle diet on your teeth, and have regular dental check-ups. You can maintain a beautiful smile for the rest of your life.
