Dental Health Week 2021: Keep Your Smile for Life | Kreativ Dental Albury

To mark Dental Health Week 2021 (2-8 August), which has the theme ‘Keep Your Smile for Life’, Kreativ Dental Albury has prepared a quick list of ways to maintain optimum oral health.

The Australian Dental Association (ADA) main oral health messages and the four key messages of the Dental Health Week 2021 campaign focus on reinforcing the importance of maintaining good oral health to keep your teeth for life:

#1 Brush teeth at least twice a day with fluoride-containing toothpaste for two minutes each time. While you can’t get rid of all the decay-causing bacteria, it is possible to control them.

Proper toothbrushing helps prevent tooth decay and gum disease by reducing the amount of bacteria and plaque around the teeth and gums.

#2 Clean between your teeth every day with floss or interdental brushes. Proper flossing removes plaque build-up and food particles in places where a toothbrush can’t easily reach.

Because plaque build-up can lead to tooth decay and gum disease, flossing is highly recommended.

#3 Maintain a healthy, balanced diet and limit added sugar consumption. Eating nutrient-rich foods promotes healthy teeth and gums.

A balanced eating plan that includes fruits, vegetables, protein-rich foods, grains, and dairy provides essential nutrients for optimum oral and overall health.

#4 Visit your Albury dentist for check-ups and preventive dental care. Regular dental check-ups help protect not just your oral health but also your overall health.

For instance, signs and symptoms of some systemic diseases might show up in the mouth first.

The examination also gives your dentist a chance to provide tips on caring for your teeth and to detect oral health problems early on — when they’re most treatable.

Look After Your Dental Health

Tempting as it is to think that people are practising good oral hygiene, the reality is that the oral health of many Australians is not close to where it should be.

  • 75% of adults rarely or never floss or clean between their teeth.
  • 1 out of 5 adults brushes only once per day.
  • 39% of parents report their children drink 2-5 softdrinks per week.
  • 2 out of 3 adults usually visit their dentist for a problem than a dental check-up.
  • 47% of adults consume too much added sugar.

Keep Your Smile for Life!

While you may not have been aware of the importance of oral hygiene, it’s a skill that will make a significant difference in your overall oral health.

Proper oral hygiene, a teeth-friendly diet, and regular dental check-ups altogether help you to keep your mouth in top-notch shape. It keeps your smile looking and feeling great for a lifetime.
